Rachel Weisz will play Clare Crowhurst, the wife of amateur yachtsman Donald Crowhurst played by Colin Firth in the upcoming biopic of Crowhurst's ill-fated voyage.
In 1968, Donald Crowhurst set sail from England to participate in the first single-handed nonstop around-the-world sailboat race, the Sunday Times Golden Globe Race in his trimaran "Teignmouth Electron". In desperation to save his ailing business he attempted to fake the voyage to avoid financial ruin. Eight months later, his boat was found in the mid-Atlantic, intact but with no one on board, Crowhurst decided to take his own life rather than be discovered as the would-be perpetrator of one of the biggest hoaxes in sailing history.
