Birmingham business district is transformed as Glenn Close, Gemma Arterton, and Paddy Considine film apocalypse scenes for the Hollywood movie "She Who Brings Gifts", directed by Colm McCarthy, of Peaky Blinders fame. The story sees most of humanity wiped out by a fungal infection and the infected, who are referred to as ‘hungries’, lose their mental powers and feed on the flesh of healthy humans, and is an adaptation of M. R Carey's novel "The Girl With All The Gifts"

The plot follows a scientist and a teacher on a journey of survival in a dystopia where the human race faces extermination.
